local launch and performance of

Reaching Peckham - a story in 40 poems by Hylda Sims

Reaching Peckham tells of lives, history and landscape in mid 1990's Peckham. The poems of the book are the story of reclusive poet Oliver, his friend Lorna - the author of the narrative - and her pupil, illiterate teenager and gang-leader Mehmet.

For this performance the characters are played by Hylda Sims, the author, her friend and colleague Kate Gibson, and actor, author and playwright Billy Colvill.

Published by Hearing Eye at £7.

Reaching Peckham was set to music, performed and recorded at the Dulwich Festival and on the London Fringe in 1996 by the Boudica Band. A CD of the original recording is available.
